Vintage Book Pages for Collage

There's something almost sacrilegious about tearing up old books...

even though they are battered i feel like i'm committing a crime...

but it would be more of a crime, i think, if they were to be tipped in a skip, or to lie in a box in some dark attic, or to gather dust on a shelf.... untouched, unread, unloved...

i checked they weren't valuable... in monetary terms....

their value is in the oldness, their feel & smell, the memories that someone else, perhaps long gone, has of receiving them... of turning their pages...

(now available in the shop)

But even if they did turn out to be a rarity, i argue with myself, that this way, they bring joy to many people, not just one collector who has the means to keep such things for their eyes only...

No, this way, people can play with...

doing what they....

in many other ways...

Sam~ Surfacing

I remember watching with a sense of fascination as Fiona began "the burning" which led to this display...

Yes, in this way, the words on the pages become something much more than the original author or publisher could have ever envisioned... mini masterpieces of texture & sentiment, filled with the love & passion of the artists who create them (and no doubt some anguish at times too). Things of beauty that bring joy, not only to the creatrix/creator, but to all of us who view & swoon over them....

Hi Dearheart! of course it is ok! I love it and thanks for the linky dink! just one request, could you change the K to a C? lol!
I always check a book to make sure it isn't valuable and most aren't if they are in terrible condition, so I have no problem upcycling them for art! great post!

Hello my lovely! I love using old book pages - the way some words come through and not others, like little synchronitic messages of beauty.... I love the way you are making these available to people!

Hi Suzi - old book pages offer so much I think; they are warm, tell stories, hold histories...and they make the dumped book beautiful and useful again. Continue to enjoy!

This is such a lovely post. I feel like I'm in such wonderful company here! With a bunch of fellow book-page artists. Thank you for including me and posting a link.

Oh, Suzi, I'm all of a dither. I feel a little lonely at my WordPress blog home. So now I'm in two places at once, again - I've copied everything over to a Blogger blog. And I now have a Blogroll installed again. It feels nice. But I shall leave both blogs in place whilst I dither a bit longer about where I want to put down some roots.
